3 initial ideas

Idea 1 – ‘Moments’

What are you considering producing?

My first idea is to produce a short experimental documentary style film on moments. This will involve a voice-over narration talking about the significance of moments in life, how they shape our experiences and the importance of capturing moments through photography. I will film a range of different clips to compliment the audio which will be of people experiencing various moments such as meeting someone for the first time and may include some famous moments in history, such as the first man on the moon.

Why are you considering making this?

I am considering making this to show the significance of moments in making memories and how even small insignificant moments can play a part in shaping your life. I think this will hopefully enlighten my audience to appreciate the small moments in life more as well as the profound moments.

Why is it important to you?

I think moments are one of the most important parts of life as they help to set up our future and shape relationships and experiences. I think it’s important to appreciate all moments even ones that seem insignificant and also to capture moments if you can to look back on. I also want to show in my film a variety of different moments so my audience will then be evoked to think themselves about similar moments they have experienced and they’re significance.

What skills are you going to be using?

I am going to be using a range of camera based skills such as using different angles and shot types while also considering composition and framing to make the clips I film visually pleasing and so they flow together well. I will also be focusing on my editing skills to be able to edit all the short clips together well and to make sure they compliment and go alongside the voice over. The microphone based skills I have learned will also be put to practice when recording the narration.

Who is your target audience?

I think my target audience will be 18-20 year olds as I think a younger age range would not be as interested in my film as it will be fairly experimental and experiencing moments is probably not something a lot of younger people would consider or be interesting in thinking about. However I think this could appeal to young adults of around age 18 as they are still young enough to have many moments still yet to come, while still having already experienced some, therefore they may be able to relate the film to themselves and it may allow them to see a significance in the idea of moments that they may have not thought about before.

What research will you be carrying out?

I will need to carry out research on moments and how they are perceived by different people. I will also do some primary and secondary research on profound moments that people experience in life and also look into some smaller moments that I can recreate in my film such as finishing a book. I will carry out this research so that the voice over in my film is accurate and I will be fully informed on the different areas regarding moments that I will be speaking about.

Idea  2 – ‘Paranoid’

What are you considering producing?

I am considering making a short thriller about a young girl walking home and feeling paranoid that someone is following her. This will involve various clips of the camera showing a figure following her in some clips, however when she looks back he is gone. The film would end with the girl seeing the stalker a her window and screaming, however when the camera pans back he would be gone, giving an ambiguous ending on if he existed of if it was all in her mind.

Why are you considering making this?

I am considering making this as I made a thriller / horror style film for my hello project and therefore I have some experience in this area and  building suspense within an audience. I also like the idea of it being slightly ambiguous and the audience being able to question the reality of what it happening. This will then hopefully allow them to want to keep on watching.

Why is it important to you?

I feel that a lot of young people especially girls feel paranoid walking around by themselves and that it can be easy it can be to hear a sound or see a person and perceive it in the wrong way, therefore making you feel more worried.

What skills are you going to be using?

I would be able to use a range of shot types such as showing a reflection of the stalker in the girls phone and close ups to express her paranoia. I would be able to experiment with Foley sounds such as the girl walking and opening the door to get into her house and put my audience knowledge to use.

Who is your target audience?

My target audience would be 16-18 year old girls as this would be the age of the main character in the film and this would therefore allow the audience to imagine themselves in the characters position and empathise with her more. This is also an age range that may feel paranoid walking by themselves again allowing them to relate to the film. A younger audience may be scared by the idea of someone following them therefore it would not be appropriate for younger people.

What research will you be carrying out?

As I don’t watch a wide range of horror or thriller films I will do some research into how other films are successful in building suspense. I will also research into a quiet location that I will be able to film the girl walking in and two people that I can use as my main characters for the girl and the stalker.

Idea 3 – ‘Photography’

What are you considering producing?

My last consideration is a short film about photography. This will involve a voice over talking about the different reasons why people take photos and its significance. Some reasons will include being able to share memories with others, preserving history, evoking emotions and allowing people to express themselves. I will film a variety of different clips which will be edited together as an artistic montage to a comply a voice over talking about the different reasons.

Why are you considering making this?

Having a personal love for photography I feel that I would like to educate both myself and others on the reasons why people take photos and the significance it can have to each individual. I think it would be interesting to enlighten people and perhaps inspire others to start taking more photos. I would also like to experiment with different shot types which I feel this would allow me to do as there would be a range of different clips to film.

Why is it important to you?

photography has always been something I’ve been passionate about therefore I would like others to appreciate photography and how important it can be. I want to show that photography is not only significant for the obvious reasons such as making and preserving memories but there’s many reasons why capturing moments is significant to different people.

What skills are you going to be using?

I will be using the knowledge I have learned throughout the course such as different shot types and angles to make my film look visually pleasing. As I will be filming a wide range of shots to complement my voice over my editing skills will play a prominent part in my film as I will need to edit together the shots carefully to go along side what the dialogue is saying. I will also be using the audio skills I’ve learnt when recording my voice over narration. research skills will also be put into place when looking into the reasons why people take photos and I will need to find out in depth information about different people’s views on photography

Who is your target audience?

I think my target audience would be 16-19 year olds. I also feel that this would appeal mainly to creative people and people that are interested in the different art forms. However I think it could also be enjoyed by young people as a whole as most older teenagers take a lot of photos despite whether they think into it or not.

What research will you be carrying out?

I will be carrying out basic research into the significance of photography and the different reasons that people take photos. This will then allow me to gather a range of different points to speak about in the voice over and I will be able to decide on what clips to film following that. I will also need to research who will  be available to be in my film and the different locations that I will be able to use to make my film pleasing to watch.
